Co-Chair, Disaster Preparedness: Yvonne Nadler
In early September 2014, Infectious Disease and
Disaster Preparedness Committees were advised that EC desired merging of
Disaster Preparedness into Infectious Disease.
This change was recommended by EC due to a not infrequent cause for
disaster preparation being an infectious disease
Purpose Statement:
"The Infectious Disease Committee (IDC) of the American Association of Zoo Veterinarians (AAZV) strives to disseminate, in a timely fashion, information on emerging and existing infectious diseases, including zoonoses and emphasizing infectious agents that compromise the health of captive and free-ranging wildlife and threaten human health. The IDC also spearheads the development of guidelines for the prevention and management of infectious diseases in captive and free-ranging wildlife. Working closely with the AZA AHC, USAHA, AAZV, and allied organizations in the zoo, wildlife, veterinary, and human medical fields, the IDC distributes information and guidelines via journals, websites, and presentations to professionals working in the zoo, wildlife, domestic, and human health fields and to the public."
